How the Midnapore name emerged?

 


There are different opinion of how the 'Midnapore' name emerged.

It is said that on 1238 AD local King named Medinikar of Orissa established the city and

Medinipur was named after a local deity "Medinimata" (literally "mother of the world",

"KAR' dynasty ruled Midnapore between 1200AD-1431AD. It is said that on 1238AD Medinikar named
Medinipur.

Midnapore was the largest District of West bengal.

Midnapore is majorly plain land but has plateau also in the northern part.
